A MAN knifed his housemate six times then stabbed a pensioner to death in an attack suspected to be "motivated by terrorism", a court heard.
Ahmed Alid allegedly slashed Terrence Carney, 70, in the neck and chest as he used a cash machine on Sunday.
The 44-year-old is also accused of attacking his housemate, Javed Nouri, at the migrant hostel in Hartlepool where they live.
He was arrested in blood-stained clothing with a large knife nearby, it is alleged.
Alid appeared via video link today at the Old Bailey flanked by four security officers.
The Moroccan national, aided by an Arabic interpreter, did not respond when asked to confirm his name.

Prosecutor Ben Lloyd said: "Although the investigation is ongoing police at this time consider the offending to have been motivated by terrorism."
Alid was remanded into custody ahead of a preliminary hearing on October 27.
