Monty Don announces date for new series of Gardeners World

Monty Don reflects on dog’s passing

Monty Don has revealed some exciting news for fans of his BBC series, Gardeners’ World. Speaking on Zoe Ball’s BBC Radio 2 show, the 68-year-old gave listeners an update. He announced there will be some more episodes this year for a special winter edition of the show.

Zoe told The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show fans on Wednesday: “Monty fans will be very thrilled to know there is a winter special of Gardeners’ World this Friday.”

“Yeah, there are going to be three or four, I forget,” Monty added. “Three – and we’ve filmed them and the great thing about them is they’re all full of new stuff.

“So it’s not just rehashing old things, it’s all new and it’s lots and lots of content.”

“It’s so part of my week… Friday night, on the sofa, Gardeners’ World, we love it,” Zoe responded.

The gardening guru earlier talked about his new book, The Gardening Book.

“I’ve written lots of gardening books and I suddenly thought – my children really were the instigators of this – they’re in their 30s now and that generation haven’t come to gardening by the same route as I have.

“I learned as a child, I watched it… And they’re not gardeners. They like beautiful gardens and they like nice things, they’re just beginning to get land of their own, rented or shared or bought or whatever.

“And you’re dead right about it being like a recipe book because they look up things individually, they just want to know, ‘How did I do that?’

“They don’t want to know about the recipe, just tell me how I do it, tell me quickly.”

Monty’s previous update was less cheerful, as back in October he broke the news to fans his beloved dog Nell, who features heavily in the series, had died.

He took to Instagram to tell his 1.2 million followers that he was “very, very sad” following the golden retriever’s death.

Days later, Gardeners’ World’s X account, formerly known as Twitter, also paid a moving tribute to the beloved Golden Retriever.

The account posted a compilation of Nell’s memorable moments from the show and captioned it: “Bye-bye Nellie. We shall miss you x x.”

Gardeners’ World will return for its winter episodes at 8pm on Friday, December 15 on BBC Two.
