Shoppers rave about £2 moisturiser that beats pricey creams and makes skin silky soft

With the rising costs of, well, everything, beauty shopping can be an expensive activity. But, if it's a moisturiser you're after, Boots shoppers think they've found a gem in Nivea's Soft Cream, £2 here for a 75ml tub.

New research shows one of these sells every three seconds in the UK alone, making it an incredibly popular product. With thousands of 5-star reviews on Boots' website, we can also see exactly why the hero moisturiser is flying off virtual shelves. It's true that plenty of shoppers like it based on the price point alone, but others point out the seemingly simple cream offers more than just moisture.

"I've used this for years as a face moisturiser, and it also works well for me when I use it before concealer as makes it easier to blend," says one.

A second notes: "I've been using this product for a year now and my skin feels so soft and healthy. I wear it in the morning before going out and it brightens up my dull face that I don't even need to wear make-up. My skin feels so soft I can't stop touching it. Highly recommend."

"I really couldn't praise this enough – beats many expensive creams and has a lovely smell, leaves skin silky soft," a third weighs in.

So what's the secret in the formula? The lightweight cream – which can be used on your hands and body as well as your face – contains vitamin E and jojoba oil, both known for their skin-nourishing and barrier-strengthening abilities. As we go into winter when our skin barriers sometimes become compromised due to harsh conditions, a cream like this one which works to moisturise and protect the outer layers is essential.

Some savvy shoppers also mention Nivea's Soft cream is comparable in results to other moisturisers currently going viral on social media thanks to their skin-priming abilities. Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré, £13.65 here, for example, is touted as a pre-foundation essential by many make-up artists thanks to its essential fatty acid and vitamin-enriched formula. Plus, there's also the iconic Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base, £52 here, which has plenty of celebrity fans.

The shopper theory here is that Nivea's cream does a similar thing but for around 5x cheaper than others on the market, making it an affordable solution for those who are looking to protect and boost their complexions.

If you're keen to shop a pot for yourself, the cream also comes in a 300ml size for £5.79 here (on sale from £8.69), for those who go through moisturisers particularly fast. And if you're after other low-cost hero beauty products that shoppers keep coming back to, we can also point you in the direction of Essence's Lash Princess Volume Mascara, £4.79 here, which our OK! Fashion Editor calls the best mascara she's ever used.

As for OK! Deputy Style Director Zoe, she calls W7's Hot Shot Lip Plumper Gloss, £4.50 here, her forever favourite.

However, if it's specifically money-saving skincare you're on the hunt for, it's worth taking a look at LookFantastic because the e-tailer currently has big discounts across brands like The Ordinary and Ameliorate.
