Is Wilko closing? Full list of stores at risk of shutting | The Sun

WILKO fell into administration last month putting the future of its 400 shops and 12,500 workers at risk.

Since then discount retailer B&M has stepped in to buy some stores but this still leaves many at risk of closure.

The chain operates from locations on the high street and more than a dozen retail parks across the country.

Since the retailer announced it was filing for administration there has been much speculation as to who might step in to save the business.

It has now been confirmed today, September 5, that discounter B&M has agreed to buy 51 locations in a £13million deal.

But that leaves the future of hundreds of remaining Wilko stores in doubt as well as thousands of jobs.

Major Wilko rivals including Poundland & B&M in talks to buy stores

It has not yet been revealed which of the 400 Wilko stores have been bought, and it is understood that store closures could be announced as soon as today.

It comes as hundreds of staff at the company's Worksop support centre were made redundant yesterday.

Further redundancies at the company's Worksop and Newport warehouses are due to start this week.

What other retailers are closing?

It's not just shops either, food and pub chains have also been hit, resulting in brands like Wetherspoons and Frankie & Benny's closing.

Following the pandemic businesses were struggling to bounce back anyway, only to then be hit by soaring energy bills.

On Saturday August 5, Clarks shoes shut the doors on its store in Fareham for food.

Before that Clarks closed a store in Dundee on July 25.

Although, some chains have managed to defy high street troubles and are actually set to open new shops.

These include discount chains like Poundland which is set to open 15 shops in the coming weeks and Greggs which is aiming to open 150 new sites this year.
