Gorka Marquez breaks silence after narrowly avoiding Strictly elimination

Les Dennis announced as first Strictly contestant to leave

Gorka Marquez has told the world how “proud” he is of his radio presenter dance partner Nikita Kanda now that the nerves of the dance-off have faded.

“I am so proud of you and to see you give your 100 per cent every time means a lot to me,” he exclaimed in a public Instagram message in view of his 852,000 followers.

Thanking the voters, the 33-year-old added that he was “very grateful” to have made it through despite the uncertainty yesterday.

“Grateful to have another week to work hard, have fun and dance again on Saturday. Let’s go, partner!” he exclaimed triumphantly.

The pair had initially failed to impress the judges with their spirited Charleston performance in time to Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) but they pulled out all the stops when they repeated their act and ended up being saved.

That meant Les Dennis and Nancy Xu were up for the chop instead, despite their dance to ‘Rock The Boat’ by Hues Corporation.

If Gorka was concerned about being in the bottom two on the night of the first elimination, he didn’t show it, as he remained in high spirits on Instagram.

Meanwhile, back at home, he has a newborn baby to take care of, after partner Gemma Atkinson, 38, gave birth just two and a half months ago to son Thiago.

Over on Instagram, Gemma posted a photo of herself clutching another famous baby – Lyra Rose, the daughter of Strictly pros Aljaz Skorjanec and Janette Manrara – while Aljaz cuddled Thiago.

“Seconds after this was taken, me and Aljaz shuddered at the thought of both babies being either mine and Gorks, or his and Janette’s,” she exclaimed.

“Two that small! Then we all sat pondering the question, [what] do you do with twins?”

That’s unlikely to be an issue for Gorka, as Gemma recently insisted that their family of four is complete after Thiago was born to join big sister Mia, four.

The mum-of-two has previously explained that Mia is already stepping up as a “mother hen” figure to him.

Gorka opened up on the Show on The Road podcast over the summer to explain that he is feeling “excited” but daunted about becoming a father for the second time.

“Now it’s baby number two, everything is going to be double… [it’s] a bit discovery, you know?

“I know how to do everything for a girl, [but] not for a boy, even if I’m a boy!”

Meanwhile, Gorka’s Strictly journey continues, and he has made it clear he has admiration for his 28-year-old dance partner.

“I know how nerve-wracking itโ€™s for someone with no dance experience to step on that dance floor and perform,” he recently told Nikita on Instagram, “but you did it so beautifully and I am so proud of you!”
