Marvel star Jonathan Majors has been found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
On Monday (December 18), a New York jury found the actor, 34, guilty of two misdemeanour charges of domestic assault against former partner Grace Jabbari. The jury found him not guilty on one count of of intentional assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree
His sentencing date will take place on February 6 2024, with the Creed III star facing up to one year in jail. The high-profile case kicked off after Majors was arrested on 26 March. The night before, the couple got into an altercation while on their way to Majors' apartment in Chelsea.
The actress and dancer, 30, testified in court that things turned physical after she spotted romantic texts on his phone. Jabbari testified that she grabbed his phone after spotting the test which said: "Wish I were kissing you right now."
When Majors attempted to retrieve his phone, Jabbari told the court how she felt "a hard blow" across her head that left her with bruising and swelling.
The court shared voice recordings and text messages between the former couple to the jury. On one text, Majors threatened suicide and dissuaded Jabbari from seeking treatment for a head wound.
The former couple met on the set of Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and went on to have a two-year relationship. Prosecutor Kelli Galloway claimed that Majors was manipulative and controlling throughout their relationship, which ended after March 25.
She told the jury during her closing statement: "What this really boils down to is four simple words: control, domination, manipulation and abuse. "[Those are the] tactics used by those who commit domestic violence against partners, against Grace."
When the charges came to light, Majors was dropped by his PR team and management. He was also dropped from a slew of projects, including the feature adaptation of the Walter Mosley novel, The Man in My Basement.
