Emmerdale's Matthew Wolfenden and Charley Webb have split after five years of marriage.

The couple confirmed the news on Wednesday (November 22), issuing a joint statement on their Instagram account. The statement said: "It is with love and respect that Charley and I have decided to separate. We remain friends and our priority is the love for our children. For their sake we would appreciate privacy at this time."

While Charley shared the same statement announcing she had split from her former co-star, signing the post of with "C x." Matthew and Charley met on the set of Emmerdale in 2006 after the 43-year-old actor joined the cast as David Metcalfe and they started dating the following year.

Charley, 39, made her debut as Debbie Dingle in 2000. The couple got engaged in 2009 before splitting in 2013. They reconciled two years later and went on to tie the knot in a secret castle ceremony in 2018.

During their relationship, Matthew and Charley welcomed three sons, Buster, 13, Bowie, seven, and Ace, four. Split rumours swirled the pair in recent weeks after Matthew unfollowed his wife on Instagram.

At the time, an insider told The Sun: "Charley and Matthew were in very different places in their lives when they first got together. Three kids later and with new careers in the mix, everything has changed and perhaps they are no longer the unit they once were."

Last month, Matthew appeared on Loose Women where he opened up about their hectic work schedules. With the actor rehearsing for his role of Buddy in Elf the Musical and Charley also away for work, Matthew revealed they have had to switch up the living arrangements in their Yorkshire home.

He explained his parents have had to move in to help look after their children. The soap star admitted how much he misses his sons while working away, however, failed to mention Charley during the interview.
