Sally Nugent grills MP Robert Jenrick over Bibby Stockholm
Robert Jenrick was invited onto the latest instalment of BBC Breakfast, but his interview with host Sally Nugent about migrant hotels closing was branded a “car crash” by viewers.
Jenrick said the decision to close migrant hotels in the next few days was a “sensible” one.
However, Nugent fired questions at the Tory politician about the situation, asking him: “Does it currently cost more than a hotel?”
“It is good value for money,” Jenrick replied prompting Nugent to add: “But more than a hotel at the moment?”
He explained it will be better value for money eventually when it is at full capacity.
She continued to press the MP which caused him to snap back: “I think what you’re expecting us to do is put 500 people onto a boat on day one, which is not a sensible thing to do.”
Nugent reminded Jenrick that “it’s not day one” as the interview heated up.
Jenrick was soon corrected by Nugent after it was claimed they were just days into the project.

She stressed: “Just going to correct you for the moment, it was actually given the all-clear a month ago.
“So it’s not only been operational for days, it’s been available to you for the last month.”
BBC Breakfast fans flocked to Twitter to comment on the “car crash” interview.
One fan said: “Sally had been given a reasonable answer to the cost question. But was just trying to get him to say that it’s more expensive as it’s not full. Yes challenge MPs but don’t just try to trap them into a sensational quote that can later be used out of context.”

Dave said: “Hmmm get real Sally, can’t immediately go to capacity with any initiative, no doubt you would berate that if they did…. Same as ‘snapshot’ cost is not representative… Surely better than hotels, why not support it and give it a chance, good enough for Offshore lads.” (sic)
Imran added: “Robert Jenrick with an absolute car crash of an interview this morning on #BBCBreakfast.”
Alex remarked: “Yet another car crash Tory interview on breakfast #BBCBreakfast.”
BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One from 6am.
