Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Carlos Alcaraz’s first-round opponents at the 2023 US Open have been revealed after the draw was made on Thursday.
Djokovic, looking to secure a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title, faces French world No.85 Alexandre Muller in his opening match.
Their meeting means that Muller will have played both Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz at back-to-back major tournaments after he lost to the Spaniard 6-4 7-6 6-3 in the second round at Wimbledon.
Alcaraz heads into Flushing Meadows as the favourite alongside Djokovic and the world No.1 begins his title defence against German world No.78 Dominik Koepfer.
British legend Andy Murray, meanwhile, takes on French world No.71 Corentin Moutet in the first round.
The draw has set up four potentially mouth-watering quarter-finals, which would see Alcaraz face Jannik Sinner in the last eight if both men progress that far.
The other three projected quarter-finals would see Djokovic take on seventh-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, an all-Russian battle between Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev while there could be a clash between Casper Ruud and Holger Rune.
Murray, meanwhile, could potentially face Grigor Dimitrov and Alexander Zverev in the second and third rounds respectively – and may take on Sinner in round four.
In the women’s singles, world No.1 Iga Swiatek has been drawn to face Rebecca Peterson in the first round while British No.1 Katie Boulter plays Diane Parry, who she beat in Indian Wells qualifying in March.
World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka, seeking to win her second Grand Slam title, is set for an opening clash with Maryna Zanevska and is projected to face Ons Jabeur in the quarter-finals in a repeat of their Wimbledon semi-final showdown. Meanwhile, wildcard Venus Williams is set for an interesting battle with Paula Badosa.
