EVERYONE loves a good takeaway but in the current cost of living crisis, it’s become a bit of a luxury for most of us.

But shoppers have spotted bargain ready meals on the shelves in Lidl and they will cost you less than a quid.

Spag bol lovers will be pleased to know you can get a 400g cheese and tomato spaghetti bolognese ready meal for just 85p from Lidl.

Chinese takeaway fans haven't been forgotten either, Lidl also has a sweet and sour chicken curry and rice for the same price.

One happy customer flocked to Facebook to share the tasty deals.

Some shoppers said they believed the ready meals must have no nutritional value in order for the price to be that low.

One user said: “They’re gross. Don’t try them.”

Another said: “You have to ask what type of ingredients are in them to be sold for 85p.”

But there is no debate that the Lidl deal is far cheaper than regular takeaway.

KMPG says Brits are forking out an average of £451 each a year on classic takeaways.

According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), takeaway prices went up by an average of 15% in the 12 months leading up to March 2023.

The Statista Research Department found a Chinese takeaway in 2017 cost £9.86 per head on average whilst an Italian would set you back £10.26, but that would usually include pizza.

You could save around £407 a year by swapping your weekly takeaway for a fakeaway meal like the ones in Lidl.

If you're looking for more ways to save on takeaways consider only ordering on discount days.

Don’t forget certain takeaway providers do great deals on everyday groceries as well.
