Devastating hint that a major Neighbours legend is set to die when show returns

Heartbreak and tragedy appear to be on the cards when Neighbours returns to screens next month, with Ramsay Street stalwart Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) sharing devastating news.

Neighbours, which was bizarrely axed by Channel 5 last year in favour of ‘original UK drama’, was saved by Amazon’s free ad-supported streaming service Freevee shortly after its conclusion, and will return on September 18.

We know, we’re counting down the days too.

But while there are plenty of reasons to be cheerful, with a surprise wedding set to kick off the big return involving a mystery bride and groom, not to mention a huge twist, there is ultimately sadness on the cards – for one resident in particular.

We are of course talking about the iconic Harold Bishop, who will feature as a recurring character during the show’s revived run.

The former cafe owner’s behaviour will pique the interests of longtime friend and doctor Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher), who notices within the first few episodes of Neighbours’ new chapter that something isn’t quite right.

Karl makes it his mission to get to the bottom of what’s going on, gravely concerned about Harold’s well-being, with the legend’s behaviour ringing serious alarm bells for the doctor.

Harold then makes a devastating admission, rendering his loved ones utterly speechless.

The question is: just what is it that Harold has revealed?

Has he received a heartbreaking health update? Is there a tragedy on the cards? Is Neighbours set to see one of its biggest ever characters die?

That remains to be seen but, several weeks in, Harold is comforted and supported by his closest friends, much like has always been the case on Ramsay Street, as his fears for the future reach breaking point.

The storyline in question was hinted at during the show’s latest trailer, which saw a devastating Harold confide in Karl that he ‘can’t make it stop’, as we see him looking around the street he always felt was his home, clutching tightly onto the History of Ramsay Street book, which played a key role in the final episodes on broadcast TV last year.

In bringing Neighbours back, are fans going to have to say goodbye to one of the show’s most iconic characters ever? Say it ain’t so!
