I’m a pro cleaner – dirt-collecting features to avoid in your home, a trendy kitchen element is horrific with smudges | The Sun

A CLEANING enthusiast has shared the three design features to avoid in your home.

The TikToker explained that each decor style can make it more difficult to maintain a tidy home.

In her video, Mahlea Shaye (@jetlagremedy) explained: "I work at JetLag Remedy and I’m going to tell you what you need to have in your house to make sure that everything is nice and clean."

For her first tip, the professional cleaner advised her followers to steer clear of a rainfall shower head.

"[The top] collects a lot of dust, you also don’t have much movement of the head if you want to wash down the sides of your shower, the tiles, or the glass," Mahlea explained.

She continued: "Instead you want to opt for a handheld one or nowadays you can actually have both.

"You can have one that’s [set in place] and one that you can take off and move around, I think it just looks a lot better."

Mahlea also recommended avoiding mirror splashbacks in your kitchen.

She explained: "If you’re cooking you’re going to see all the oil splatter, everything.

"All the smear marks when you try and wipe it off, it’s all going to be very visible on a mirror splashback."

Mahlea described the popular design feature as "just horrific to clean."

She suggested opting for something that is easier to clean and that won't show up smudges or splatter marks.

Showing her viewers an example, she said: "Personally, I just think it looks a lot better."

For her final tip, Mahlea shared "another don't" when it comes to kitchen décor.

"You do not want these dusty crusty musty kitchen [garbage cans] on display," she told her followers,

She explained: "It’s giving your ex, it’s giving rust spots because it’s such bad quality.

"Instead, you want to opt for something that you can pull out and push back in so that not everyone can see your [garbage can] and [trash]."

Mahlea told her audience that garbage cans "look better when they’re out of sight."

TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the advice.

"I think that people have really forgotten the point of a backsplash. It’s to protect the walls from splatter," pointed out one viewer.
