PICKY Gaynor Goldie was having a hard time finding the perfect party dress.
But she was stunned when the search sent her on an unexpected time travel journey.
Lurking in a wardrobe was the outfit she’d not seen since she’d worn it to her school's S3 Christmas dance 12 years ago.
She was immediately catapulted back to 2011, when Olly Murs topped the charts with Dance Me Tonight.
And she was stunned when she found the dress still fitted her like a glove, despite her going through massive health battles and almost dying twice.
Gaynor, from Irvine, Ayrshire, said: “I was taken aback. I was looking for areas to nitpick as I’m my own biggest critic.
“But I was actually extremely comfortable and it felt almost as good as I did the first time I wore it.”
The dress has an embellished pattern on the front which still looks trendy and Gaynor reckons she rescued it at just the right moment.
She said: “It’s probably done a massive u-turn. It’s gone out of fashion over the years and then made its way back in.”
Gaynor was 14 when she nicked the dress from older sister Rebecca’s wardrobe for her school dance.

She posed for snaps in it and loved it but after that night put it back and never saw it again.
Gaynor, now 26, said: “It was my first senior’s dance so I wanted to look glamorous.
“My sister was a model so I knew that if I wanted to impress I needed something of hers. So I stole it from her wardrobe.
“I just remember feeling so cool when I had it on back then.”
Since then Gaynor’s been rocked by a series of medical problems that almost claimed her life.
After being diagnosed with bowel condition Crohn’s Disease she fell seriously ill and ended up in a wheelchair twice.
Her weight has gone up and down and she’s been a size 18 and a size 6.
And after undergoing a colostomy she wears a stoma bag, which can make finding outfits difficult.
But since finishing her law degree in her hospital bed she’s rebuilt her life.
She was ransacking wardrobes at her mum and dad’s place when the old dress jumped out at her.
2011 THROWBACK
WHEN Gaynor wore her party dress for the first time, the Christmas Number One in 2011 was the Military Wives with Wherever You Are.
But it’s more likely Gaynor and pals were dancing to the likes of Rhianna’s We Found Love and Flo Rida’s Good Feeling at their Christmas Party.
The X Factor final shown in December 2011 was the most watched telly programme of the year. While William and Catherine’s Royal Wedding took the number two slot.
Other shows in the top ten included Britain’s Got Talent, I’m a Celebrity, Coronation Street and Downton Abbey.
Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows was the year’s biggest movie in the UK.
The King’s Speech and The Inbetweeners Movie were also packing in crowds at the cinema.
Gaynor added: “I found it in my sister’s old bedroom in the family home.
“After having the bag fitted my shape has changed and it makes me extremely picky when I’m trying to find a dress I like
“I laughed thinking there was no way I would get into it, but decided to give it a go anyway.
“Being able to fit into a dress from my early teens when I’m a healthy weight is a massive achievement.”
Gaynor showed the dress off to her stunned mum but it sparked off a bit of sibling rivalry with her sister.
Gaynor said: “As soon as she saw the picture she asked if it was her dress.
“That made me laugh because the amount of fall outs we had about me stealing her clothes were endless.”
Gaynor reckons the dress, which she wore recently for her cousin's engagement party, could be the best buy ever considering it’s still being worn in 2026. And she’s planning to hold onto it.
She added: “I will consider wearing it again in future, maybe in another 12 years if I’m lucky.
“It is definitely a major bargain since I’m still able to wear it now.”
