DIY dad builds epic playhouse in garden for his kids and people are so impressed they think it looks like a £425k home | The Sun

A HANDYMAN dad has shared the impressive Wendy house he built for his children and people say he could sell it for thousands of pounds.

Dad-of-two Alex Dodman built his kids an impressive garden playhouse from scratch complete with a tiled roof, shutters and windows.

He shared his step-by-step project online and viewers are so impressed, they say it looks like a £425,000 house.

Alex begins his video with a view of his empty garden, using coloured lines to show exactly where the Wendy house will sit.

“The plan is to first build a little bit of decking that will level the area off, and then build a kid’s Wendy house on top with a little pitch roof and a porch bit out the front for some flowers and a rocking chair,” he says.

The clever dad shows the camera a sketch of his design using crayons to show off its pretty colours.

After ordering his materials, he built the decking and fitted weed membrane below to protect the wood.

“To protect the decking I’m going to use this Ronseal medium oak stain,” he says. “When that was all done it was time to build the Wendy house.

“First I just cut and built the frames for the back and side walls. To cover them I used some really nice log lap cladding

“I lifted them into place then I could start fixing them all together and set out the rest of the frame.

“I built the door opening into the left and then fixed on some perspex for the windows on the front and side.”

The Wendy house was coming along wonderfully, but Alex had much grander plans.

“I got the rest of the cladding on and built a little pitch roof,” he says. “I went for a 45 degree drop on it so it’s big enough for me to stand in and also because these leftover clay tiles I had for it need a minimum 35 degree drop.

“I set out my roof battens and got them on and used some mortar along the top to finish it off with some ridge tiles.”

Now the playhouse was ready for some colour, and there was no expense spared.

Alex chose Ronseal weatherproof spring green wood paint, which he claims will last for 10 years.

“By then the kids will have grown up and I can turn it into a mini garden pub,” he says.

“I made a little front door and painted the four corner posts and door in this Ronseal racing green colour.”

Finally, Alex fixes on some front railings and adds the finishing touches, including a mini lamp post and some pretty pink flowers.

The finished Wendy house is absolutely stunning, and hundreds of viewers have shared their amazement.

One user gushed: “Wendy house?! That’s £425,000 in London.”

A second replied: “Well done, they’re so fortunate to have such a talented dad.”
