Cancer-stricken Jonnie Irwin has revealed that he’s experiencing a “small win” after being allowed home from hospital today – but has hinted at struggles to come.
Taking to Instagram this evening, he informed his 229,000 followers: “Well the blood tests and scans today show my liver function is heading in the right direction!
“There’s bigger issues we will have to confront in a couple of weeks but for now I’m allowed home. I’m taking the small win for now.”
The former A Place in the Sun star, whose Escape To The Country comeback episode recently received rave reviews, added that his eldest son Rex had adorably tried, but failed, to remain awake long enough to be reunited with him.
“[He] tried to stay up to welcome me home but couldn’t quite stay awake bless him, although Reggie and Ronnie were wide awake,” the 49-year-old explained.

Sharing a photo of his son passed out asleep on the sofa, with his fluffy-maned toy lion beside him, he flashed a peaceful smile at the camera.
“Big big thanks to all the doctors and nurses who looked after me. I’m so grateful to be home,” he enthused.
Jonnie had previously revealed that he’d been admitted to hospital last Friday, and ended up having to watch his appearance on BBC show Morning Live from there, instead from home.
Earlier today, he’d shared: “I had a fever and acute stabbing pain in my right hand side. Turns out I probably had an infection and other issues which I won’t bore you with. Been on drips, regular bloods taken and have observations every 4 hours through day and night.”
He added: “Didn’t think I’d be watching @bbcmorninglive from a hospital bed but it’s just part of the roller coaster life that this illness throws at you.”
