Dancing Britney Spears sparks fresh concern in trash-filled home
Britney Spears has opened up about her decision to shave her head in 2007, one of the most talked about moments of her career.
Her surprising decision was highly publicized back in the noughties, but her motives remained a mystery – until now.
In her tell-all memoir, The Woman in Me, Britney reveals she saw it as a way of pushing back against society.
“I’d been eyeballed so much growing up,” she says in the excerpt, published in People.
“I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body, since I was a teenager.

“Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back.”
Britney, 41, has been a global superstar since her teenage years, launching her hugely successful career with her debut album …Baby One More Time at the age of just 18.
After almost a decade in the public eye, the Gimme More singer clearly had enough of all the scrutiny and shaved her head as an act of defiance.
However, when her father, Jamie Spears, took control of her finances and her personal life under a conservatorship in 2008, she claimed she was no longer able to make decisions about her own body.

“I was made to understand that those days were now over,” she wrote.
“I had to grow my hair out and get back into shape. I had to go to bed early and take whatever medication they told me to take.”
Esther’s Haircutting Studio refused to shave Britney’s hair when she walked in one night in 2007, so she took matters into her own hands in full view of the paparazzi.
Just days later she was snapped attacking a photographer’s car with an umbrella in the midst of her divorce and custody battle with Keven Federline.

“The conservatorship stripped me of my womanhood, made me into a child,” Britney recalled of that time.
“I became more of an entity than a person onstage. I had always felt music in my bones and my blood; they stole that from me.”
She’s returned to the tabloid headlines this year after her split from Sam Asghari after a five-year relationship before just 14 months of marriage.
The Woman in Me will hit shelves on October 24.
