A baby boy has died after a tragic water accident in the Scottish Highlands.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Screams and crying could be heard as people rushed to help the little boy at Ullapool Harbour in Wester Ross yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The baby and an adult were pulled from the water at around 1.20pm before the child was flown\u00a0to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. But he was pronounced dead a short time later.<\/p>\n
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said no one else required hospital treatment. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.<\/p>\n
Arianna Hardy, 20, was walking along the waterfront to work at the Ferry Boat Inn when she heard screams and crying. She saw medics trying desperately to save the boy’s life before he was carried into the air ambulance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The waitress told MailOnline someone had jumped into the water to try to save the baby who she believes was around two to three months old.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘It’s just so heart-wrenching, when I saw that pram I thought “oh no, please it better not be a child”,’ she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘It’s just absolutely horrible and the community reaction has been heartfelt for that poor child.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
Highland councillor Liz Kraft told the BBC she wished to offer her deepest condolences to the boy’s family and the ‘tragic incident would no doubt affect the whole community’.<\/p>\n
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: ‘The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.’<\/p>\n
Three coastguard rescue teams were dispatched to the pier area from Ullapool, Achiltibuie and Inverness.<\/p>\n

They were assisted by the Lochinver lifeboat crew – which turned back after launching – and the coastguard rescue helicopter from Stornoway.<\/p>\n
Police, harbour authorities and paramedics were also in attendance.<\/p>\n
A spokeswoman from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: ‘Coastguard rescue teams from Ullapool, Achiltibuie and Inverness were sent, alongside the coastguard helicopter from Stornoway and the RNLI lifeboat from Lochinver.’<\/p>\n
An ambulance spokesman added: ‘An ambulance, air ambulance and HM Coastguard were dispatched to the scene and three patients were transported to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.’<\/p>\n
