Janet Street-Porter has said she could barely watch BBC's The Reckoning as it shared the horror tale of Savile's twisted abuse.

Joining Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan and Joanna Page, the Loose Women ladies opened up the show by discussing the new drama. While Janet kicked off the show praising Steve Coogan, who is currently playing Savile, she admitted she struggled to watch it.

Janet said: "I worked as an executive in the entertainment department where has made many shows, but I never produced any shows with Jimmy Savile. So I have met the real Jimmy Savile, and the idea that he reappeared in my living room made my flesh crawl."

She added: "It made me feel sick actually. It had a very, very powerful affect on me. Then the dancehall scenes in episode one, of course, I was in those dance halls."

Janet explained that when she was in the dance hall there were girls who would go backstage with the DJs, adding: "Everybody knows about that. But what really upsets me about this drama is that it doesn't really add anything to what we already know about Jimmy Savile.

"I personally would have preferred, if we wanted to go through the 'how did this horrible thing happen and nobody noticed?', I would have preferred a documentary."

Ruth then explained that she was at home and had purposefully avoided watching it, but walked in while her husband Eamonn Holmes had it on. She said: "I actually don't want to watch it. Because it's a dramatisation, to me it suddenly becomes entertainment.

"If it was a documentary I would be more inclined to watch it, but Eamonn was watching it and I walked in and saw the scene where he asks two girls to come back to his room, it made my skin crawl. I was like, 'I can't watch this'."

While the series has left many people divided, Coogan has been praised for his portrayal of Savile. The BBC drama follows the life of Savile and sheds light on how he avoided justice.

It's currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm.
