{"id":98475,"date":"2023-09-05T14:10:48","date_gmt":"2023-09-05T14:10:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebritycovernews.com\/?p=98475"},"modified":"2023-09-05T14:10:48","modified_gmt":"2023-09-05T14:10:48","slug":"busan-film-festival-to-open-with-because-i-hate-korea-chow-yun-fat-named-as-asian-filmmaker-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebritycovernews.com\/lifestyle\/busan-film-festival-to-open-with-because-i-hate-korea-chow-yun-fat-named-as-asian-filmmaker-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Busan Film Festival To Open With Because I Hate Korea; Chow Yun-Fat Named\u00a0As Asian Filmmaker Of The Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Busan International Film Festival (BIFF, October 4-13) has unveiled its full line-up, including opening and closing films, and announced that Hong Kong star Chow Yun-fat has been named as Asian Filmmaker of the Year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Chow will be feted through the screening of some of his most iconic films, including Ang Lee&rsquo;s <em>Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon<\/em> and John Woo&rsquo;s <em>A Better Tomorrow<\/em>, as well as recent release <em>Once More Chanc<\/em>e, directed Anthony Pun.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Chow, international guests expected at the festival include Luc Besson, Japanese filmmakers Hirokazu Kore-eda and Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Korean-American filmmakers Celine Song and Lee Isaac Chung, and Chinese actress Fan Bingbing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Related Stories<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/The-Stranger.jpg\"><span>Breaking News<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Busan Announces New Currents, Jiseok Line-ups With Strong Showing From Bangladesh, Japan<\/h3>\n<\/article>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/ACFM2-cropped.jpg\"><span>Breaking News<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Koji Fukada, Makbul Mubarak &amp; Rima Das Among Filmmakers With New Works Selected For Busan&#039;s Asian Project Market\u00a0<\/h3>\n<\/article>\n<p>The festival will open with the world premiere of Jang Kun-jae&rsquo;s <em>Because I Hate Korea<\/em>, adapted from the popular novel by Chang Kang-myoung, and close with Chinese filmmaker Ning Hao&rsquo;s <em>The Movie Emperor<\/em>, starring Andy Lau, which is receiving its world premiere in Toronto.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Gala screenings include Kore-eda&rsquo;s <em>Monster<\/em>, Han Shuai&rsquo;s <em>Green Night<\/em>, starring Fan, and Bertrand Bonello&rsquo;s <em>The Beast<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As previously announced, the festival has a Special Program focusing on Indonesian cinema and also has a section of Korean Diaspora cinema, screening titles including Chung&rsquo;s <em>Minari<\/em> and Song&rsquo;s <em>Past Lives<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Announcing the line-up, acting BIFF director Nam Dong-chul said the festival had put aside its recent internal management struggles and is now focused on delivering one of its strongest ever editions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The difficult times are not behind us, but hard work has made this year&rsquo;s festival better than ever,&rdquo; he said in an online press conference.
