Someone is going out of their way to take them &#8211; it&#8217;s not a well-used path.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Another anonymous source told MailOnline: &#8216;There&#8217;s no hard evidence but I do know that some landowners don&#8217;t want people walking on their land.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;One way of stopping this is to take the signs away. There&#8217;s a chance this is part of the problem with the disappearing signposts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;With some posts you would have to walk quite a long way to do this, so it&#8217;s a lot of effort for someone to walk up and take it, it&#8217;s likely to be someone targetting these specific posts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;They are hard to get out and someone has gone to the post specifically to take it out.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>One local queried whether a wooden post had been removed for its value, while another villager said: &#8216;I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s just vandalism, it&#8217;s not the local kids.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;What has happened is a complete mystery. Why should landowners get angry now?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Visiting hiker Mike Jones, 56, from London, said: &#8216;Sometimes a direction sign may disappear from a metal post, but I assume that&#8217;s because of gales. But these signposts were too heavy to be blown away.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It&#8217;s a mystery in such a lovely but remote spot. There is an extensive amount of piles of stones marking footpaths all over the place.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;That&#8217;s OK by me so long as they leave key markers.
