Darius Rucker was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during a ceremony on Monday.

After being introduced by former Universal Music Group Nashville Chairman/CEO Mike Dungan, Rucker said, “This is stuff you don’t even dream about when you’re from South Carolina. You know, struggling, growing up, and just wanting to be a singer — that’s all I ever wanted to be was a singer. But you never dream that this stuff is going to happen.”

“To be here, right here with a star on the Walk of Fame, I said over there, it’s the biggest thing that’s happened to me,” added Rucker, who received the 2,766th star on Hollywood Boulevard in the category of recording.

Rucker also mentioned his three children in his speech, saying, “Carrie, Dani and Jack are my heart, they’re my soul. They’re everything to me and everything I do is for them.”

“As great as all this stuff is, it’s not as cool as being your dad,” he added.

The Grammy-winning singer’s friends and his bandmates from Hootie & the Blowfish were also present.

Rucker recently released his latest album Carolyn’s Boy, which pays homage to his late mother, a woman he celebrates as the sole reason for “who I am, how I am, what I am.”
