Those who wish to keep their dogs have until the end of January to register them with the exemption scheme or they can choose to have their dog euthanised and apply for compensation.<\/p>\n<p>Owners will be forced to comply with strict rules including the requirement to muzzle them and keep them on a\u00a0lead in public, but the dogs must also be microchipped and neutered.<\/p>\n<p>But Dave Martin, a welfare adviser to 900 practices in the UK, fears the consequences if these dogs are kept without stimulation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;My worry is that the American bully XL population is quite young&#8230; so we&#8217;ve got young, fit, athletic dogs who are going to have a high demand for exercise, high demand for stimulation,&#8217; he told the BBC.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/04\/11\/77239513-12822877-image-a-24_1701688650075.jpg\" height=\"381\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/04\/11\/77224301-12822877-Jack_Lis_10_suffered_fatal_head_and_neck_injuries_after_he_was_a-a-25_1701688859751.jpg\" height=\"846\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Jack Lis, 10, suffered fatal head and neck injuries after he was attacked by an XL Bully in Caerphilly in 2021; his mother has since campaigned for the breed to be banned<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/04\/11\/77223585-12822877-Ian_Price_52_was_mauled_to_death_by_two_XL_Bullies_on_September_-a-26_1701688868013.jpg\" height=\"964\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Ian Price, 52, was mauled to death by two XL Bullies on September 14 &#8211; the ban on XL Bullies was announced by Rishi Sunak the next day<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We know a lot of the fatal attacks have occurred in the house or with dogs escaping\u2026 if we end up frustrating these dogs, they&#8217;re not getting the exercise they need, is that going to run the risk of more attacks within the house?<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We don&#8217;t know is the simple answer but it is a concern&#8230;some dogs may be more likely to attack than they were beforehand.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>He said he understood the government&#8217;s decision, but feared the uncertain knock-off effects.<\/p>\n<p>The vet also worries people will just move on to other aggressive dogs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<span>Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) also fears the rules may lead to a &#8216;postcode lottery&#8217; on vets being able to help owners meet the terms, the <\/span>BBC\u00a0previously<span>\u00a0reported.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The charity said: &#8216;We fear that these factors will result in a postcode lottery on helping owners euthanise or neuter their bully XLs, and could increase abandonment rates for owners that have nowhere else to turn.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/04\/12\/78553107-12822877-image-a-31_1701692354241.jpg\" height=\"793\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The breeding and sale of American XL Bully dogs will be banned by the end of the year &#8211; with a ban on keeping them without a certificate following in February<\/p>\n<p><span><\/span>Prime Minister Rishi Sunak\u00a0announced the XL bully ban after a spate of violent attacks which left many people injured or dead.<\/p>\n<p>In October, a woman was injured after she was attacked by her own American XL bully in Norfolk.<\/p>\n<p>In September, 52-year-old Ian Price, from Staffordshire, died in hospital after being attacked by two American XL bullies.<\/p>\n<p>In November last year, Jack Lis, 10, was killed by a American XL bully while at a friend&#8217;s house in South Wales. September 14, 2023<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, September 14, &#8216;pillar of the community&#8217; Ian Price, 52, was attacked and killed by two &#8216;devil&#8217; XL Bully dogs after they jumped out of his neighbour&#8217;s window in Stonnall, Staffordshire.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Price, from Stonnall, Staffordshire, was attacked and killed by the two dogs which jumped out of a neighbour&#8217;s window yards from a primary school. However he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
