Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Scanlon broke down as she discussed her devastating exit from the BBC One show over the weekend.

The 39 year old faced Bad Education star Layton Williams, 29, in the dance-off after they both landed in the bottom following the judges scores and a public vote.

Judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke chose to save Layton and professional Nikita Kuzmin after they re-performed an American Smooth routine to It’s Oh So Quiet by Bjork.

On Monday, the Irish presenter appeared on Strictly: It Takes Two alongside her dance partner, Carlos Gu, to chat to host Fleur East about her time on the show, and tears filled her eyes as she watched her highlights reel.

When asked about the highlights of her stint on Strictly, Angela said: "There have been a few stand out moments, which I feel really grateful for… Charleston, week three, top of the leaderboard, took us totally by surprise and it was so joyful and glorious.

"And the Paso to Black Swan in Halloween week was a bit of a comeback moment, and then Argentine Tango in Blackpool was, for me, which is possibly why it stings so badly to leave a week later, it felt like a real moment."

Mum of two Angela could barely finish her sentence as she became tearful, before being comforted by Carlos, who wrapped his arm around her.

Taking to Instagram following her exit, Angela shared a sweet video of her and Carlos' final dance, which she captioned: "Over and out. What a wild ride it’s been, feels like it’s been cut a little short but maybe there’s a bigger plan.

"When I signed up to do Strictly I hoped I’d leave the show with an arse like Kim Kardashian & a few killer moves for family weddings. What I hadn’t anticipated (and maybe it’s still too early to really feel through the sobs) is how much growth there would really be (not just my glutes).

"To get out there every week in front of millions with no control, as a recovering perfectionist, was HARD. To pick up every week and go again was HARD. To receive feedback wasn’t always cute.

"To juggle and keep the show on the road while trying to nail a Paso Doble was HARD."

She continued: " But… to dance every week was easy. To feel his belief and faith. To laugh. To pick each other up. To share food & ideas & vulnerability. To stand under the lights with this man’s arm around me, was easy.

"It feels somewhat premature & we had a lot more to give but to have met a soul that knows mine deeply, a heart that is as open, is an absolutely unexpected gift. I feel like the LUCKIEST [green heart emoji] @gkx_carlos you are my favourite x.

"I have so much more to say, and so many more people to thank (!) but right now I’m crying in an Epsom salt bath while eating a cinnamon swirl so you’ll have to wait for Part 2!"

Strictly Come Dancing returns for a musicals special on Saturday December 2 at 7.25pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
