TOTTENHAM have paid an emotional tribute to their former boss and player Terry Venables who has died aged 80.<\/p>\n
Ahead of their Premier League clash against Aston Villa a minute's applause was held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.<\/p>\n

Spurs and Villa players also wore black armbands in honour of the legendary boss.<\/p>\n
Venables' family published the news of his death on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
As both a player and manager at Tottenham a minute's applause was held before their clash against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon in North London.<\/p>\n
Ange Postecoglou's side with Unai Emery's squad applauded the England legend alongside fans.<\/p>\n
Spurs released a statement ahead of the tribute which read: "The Club is extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former player and manager Terry Venables. <\/p>\n "Our deepest condolences are with Terry\u2019s friends and family at this incredibly difficult time. <\/p>\n "In tribute, we shall hold a minute\u2019s applause prior to kick-off and our players will wear black armbands during this afternoon\u2019s fixture against Aston Villa. <\/p>\n "Rest in peace, Terry \ud83e\udd0d."<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Terry won the FA Cup as a player and manager for Spurs in 1966-67 and in 1990-91 respectively.<\/p>\n Then as a midfielder, Venables made over 500 appearances for Chelsea, Tottenham, QPR and Crystal Palace as a player.<\/p>\n Venables then turned to a career in managing and led Crystal Palace, QPR, Barcelona and Tottenham to great achievements in club football.<\/p>\n The Englishman was then best known for managing England and leading the Three Lions to the semi-finals at Euro 1996. <\/p>\n He also managed the Australian National team from 1997-98. <\/p>\n Fellow Aussie and Spurs boss Postecoglou also released a statement prior to the game on Sky Sports.<\/p>\n He said: "If you are asking about a person who embodies everything this football club has always wanted to be, it is Terry. <\/p>\n "It wasn\u2019t just about the way he managed or coached, it was the person he was. <\/p>\n "He influenced Australia as well. He was the manager of the national team and almost got us to the World Cup.<\/p>\n "But the biggest testament is that anyone who I have ever come across that has worked with him will say he is by far the best coach, manager and tactician they have come across."<\/p>\n<\/picture>LEGEND GONE <\/span><\/p>\n
