Tess Daly has shared her disappointment as she couldn't be there to cheer on her husband Vernon Kay, who completed an epic ultramarathon for Children In Need. The Strictly Come Dancing host said she was "absolutely gutted" not to be at the finish line due to filming commitments.

Vernon Kay, who hosts the morning show on BBC Radio 2, took on a 115-mile ultramarathon to raise money for the charity that supports disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. He started his journey in Leicester's Victoria Park and finished four days later at the Bolton Wanderers stadium, his hometown.

The star arrived in Bolton and ran into the football stadium to be greeted by cheerleaders, a brass band, and a large crowd of fans. Pudsey Bear, the iconic mascot of Children In Need, also cheered him on.

Vernon's parents, Gladys and Norm, along with family and friends, were there to welcome him home. The emotional DJ was seen hugging them at the stadium. However, Tess had previously expressed her regret at not being able to be there due to her Strictly Come Dancing filming schedule in Blackpool.

Tess Daly shared a screenshot of her last FaceTime call with Vernon Kay before he completed his challenge on Instagram. She wrote to her 851,000 followers: "Absolutely gutted not to be at the finish line not to cheer you on today @vernonkay! (am at Strictly) BUT what a moment, what an achievement, I am SO PROUD of what you've done!"

The Stockport-born presenter continued: "I can see in your body that it's taken a physical toll but I know that it won't matter right now, as the total of over 3 MILLION raised for Children In Need @bbcin is just incredible, and the generosity and support shown by everyone that has so kindly donated and those who have come out to support you along the way has been beyond wonderful and I know it's kept you going (and me too), love you to bits Vern, you've got this!!"

She also reshared videos and pictures from BBC Radio 2 of Vernon crossing the finish line where it was revealed he's made more than £4 million so far. Her fans and followers were quick to share their praise and support.

Earlier this week, BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent was left visibly flustered while interviewing Vernon Kay on the show, with the star appearing to dismiss her 'basic' question about how he trained for the ultra ultramarathon.

Sally said: "How on earth do you train for something like this?"

Clearly amused, Vernon responded: "How do you train for something like this? Well, by running, you just go running."
