EastEnders viewers reckon soap icon Chrissie Watts is set for a shock comeback to Walford – and AI thinks the same too.

The character, played by Tracy-Ann Oberman, was a regular on the soap from 2004 until 2005. As the wife of Dirty Den, Chrissie became a hit with viewers and appeared in 218 episodes.

During her stint in Albert Square, Chrissie was the landlady of the Queen Vic and featured in numerous storylines. But she is mostly remembered for killing husband Den.

As fans will recall, Chrissie, along with Sam Mitchell and Zoe Slater took on evil Den, leading to his violent death. Chrissie was finally arrested for the crime, after she framed Sam at first, and she left the soap in 2005.

However, fans are now certain that Chrissie could come back to the famous square. And they have even proposed a storyline for her no doubt dramatic return.

Over on a Facebook EastEnders Facebook page, one loyal fan penned: “I really wish they’d bring back Chrissie Watts, with Sam being back and Sharon and Kat on the square I’d like to see it, plus she’d be out of prison by now. If she’s still there then she’s served more time than actual murderers lol.”

The same fan then theorised that Chrissie could also return to her job as landlady at the Queen Vic, currently owned by Linda Carter. The fan went on: “My idea for a storyline would be who’s stalking Sharon and then obviously it would be revealed to be her.

“Or the Vic goes up for sale and there’s a mystery buyer, Linda doesn’t know but because it’s signed Watts she assumes it’s Sharon and Chrissie walks out from behind the bar in a similar way Sharon did in 2001,” they added.

Similarly, AI has also claimed Chrissie could return to EastEnders. Daily Star quizzed one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools Bard AI, to see if Chrissie might come back to the soap.

The program responded: “It is possible that Chrissie Watts could return to EastEnders.” Bard AI then listed “a few reasons why.”

It explained: “Tracy-Ann Oberman has expressed interest in returning. In a recent interview, Oberman said that she would 'never say never' to returning to EastEnders. She also said that she loved playing Chrissie and that she is 'really… victim or villain?'"

The system went on: “There are many potential storylines for Chrissie's return. Chrissie could return to seek revenge on those who wronged her. She could also return to try to reclaim her place in the Watts family. Additionally, Chrissie's return could be used to explore themes such as redemption and forgiveness.”
