Shepparton has recorded seven new cases of coronavirus, marking the emergence of a new cluster, as fears of a statewide lockdown return to the state’s regions.
Goulburn Valley Health confirmed on Friday afternoon that seven people in the community had tested positive, as authorities rapidly test the town and residents turn up to testing stations in their thousands.

The cases came as Greater Shepparton Secondary College closed its campuses after students at the large regional school were identified as close contacts.
Parents and carers were directed to collect their children from school this afternoon and told all school buses had been cancelled as a preventative measure.
“Students are advised to take their books and devices home with them in the expectation of possible lockdown measures being put in place,” the school said in a note to families.
“This is a STOP and STAY order which includes ALL household members. You must stay at home until further notice from the Department of Health.”
Students who are close contacts have attended the multi-campus school’s Wanganui and McGuire campuses. Shepparton’s four state high schools merged into one this year, with more than 2300 students divided across three campuses ahead of a new campus’ opening in 2022.
St Mel’s Primary, a Catholic school in the northern Victorian regional city, has also been closed today.
