Hundreds of bikers riding the May Day run between London and Hastings were stuck on the A21 in Kent after a motorbike crash closed the road in both directions shortly before 10am this morning.
A man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following the incident that took place coastbound on the Tonbridge, Southborough junction in Kent.
Pictures of the A21 at a standstill with cars surrounded by bikers milling around the road have been shared on social media.

A21 crash: Bank Holiday chaos after serious motorbike smash shuts road leaving bikers and cars stranded
A spokesman for Kent Police said: ‘Kent Police was called at 9.33am to a collision on the A21 coastbound, close to the junction for Tonbridge.
‘Officers and the South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene.
‘A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to a London hospital.
‘The road was closed in both directions, but has since been reopened.’
The road was closed both ways between A26 Quarry Hill Road, Tonbridge, Kent, and A26 Woodgate Way, near Tonbridge as an air ambulance attended the scene.
All lanes are now reopen with drivers warned to expect long delays.
This year marks the 41st annual Mayday Run from Locksbottom to Hastings.
The MailOnline has approached Hem Events Ltd, organisers of the May Day Run for comment.
Hastings Mayday Run is believed to be one of the largest free motorbike events in Europe – with over 40,000 motorbikers attending in previous years.
