The mother of two young girls found dead in a Florida canal where she had been offering to “baptize” neighbors has been arrested for their murders, police said.
Tinessa Hogan, 36, was busted late Tuesday on two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 9-year-old Destiny and 7-year-old Daysha Hogan, in Lauderhill, news station WTVJ reported.
The girls’ bodies were discovered floating in the canal near their apartment on June 22, police said.
Earlier in the day, their mom had been seen swimming with the girls, cops said.
Neighbors told authorities that she had been carrying a Bible and asked them if they would let her baptize them.
“She was in the canal,” police Lt. Mike Bigwood told People. “She was offering to baptize people in the neighborhood.”
The mother was named as a person of interest in the case after she never reported the children’s disappearance, police said.
Police have not released the girls’ cause of death, but have asked those who know the family for help with the investigation.
“Any knowledge of the family, the family dynamic, activities that the family engaged in together, just general information about who they were and what their day-to-day life was like would be extremely helpful,” Bigwood told the magazine.
