Man ‘keeps his mother’s decaying body for 11 MONTHS at their home and continues to collect her pension after failing to report the death’ in Japan

A 78-year-old Japanese son has reportedly been arrested for allegedly abandoning his dead mother’s corpse and leaving it to rot in their shared home for 11 months.

Katsuyoshi Nabata lived with his mother, who was in her nineties, in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, on the west coast and has apparently carried on collecting her pension since she died last June.

And it is claimed that he allowed the body to fester on the bed of her first-floor bedroom which was only discovered when her grandson stumbled upon her.

Nabata’s 47-year-old son was visiting his father’s house on Saturday when he saw the horrific scene of his grandmother lying dead and decayed on the mattress, according to Japan Today. 

The next day, police tracked Nabata to a hot spring complex and detained him. 

Nabata’s son was supposed to be spending time with his father and grandmother for Japan’s Golden Week celebrations – a 10-day holiday starting on April 29 that used to be mark the birthday of Emperor Showa who died in 1989.
