Five shot and three dead in drag racing incident in yet another weekend of gun violence in US city | The Sun

FIVE people were shot in a horror drag race last night in yet another weekend of violence in the city of Chicago.

Three of the victims tragically succumbed to their injuries while two others remain in nearby hospitals.

The three victims who died were aged 15 to 20 years old and affiliated with a gang, police said.

The shooting erupted after an apparent street race on the southwest side of Chicago early on Sunday morning.

Police said they responded to reports of around 100 cars taking over an intersection.

It is currently unclear how the street racing escalated into a shooting.

Images from the scene near Brighton Park show a series of tire marks burnt across the road from the incident.

The two people who survived remain in serious condition, but are expected to recover from their injuries, police said

Authorities have made no arrests related to the shooting, but added they are still looking to speak with "one or two people" who are "not necessarily" those in the hospital.

In a separate incident, a 16-year-oldboy identified as Rishiwn Hendricks was fatally shot on the same night.
