Disgusting 10-ton fatberg full of grease and wet wipes cleared from sewer

A FATBERG weighing more than an African elephant has been cleared from a sewer.

The 10-ton mass of fat, grease and other unflushable items, including wet wipes, was tackled with high-powered water jets.

Engineers dug through 300 metres of fat and grease to blast loose what was described as a “massive and disgusting” blockage in Belgravia, central London.

They then had to use small tools and even their hands to clear the blockage.

Thames Water’s Matt Rimmer said: “We’d urge everyone to help fight the fatberg by only flushing the three Ps – pee, poo and paper.

"This was a massive and disgusting fatberg that took a great deal of effort and teamwork to clear.

"It was set hard and had to be destroyed to get the sewer flowing well again."

The Belgravia blockage is one of several fatbergs to have been cleared from the capital's sewers.
