Brit holiday warning as Spanish cops hunt serial killer linked to murders of at least four men met on dating apps

BRIT holidaymakers have been warned of a serial killer on the loose in Spain as cops hunt for the murderer linked to the deaths of at least four men on dating apps.

Spanish detectives are also looking into the mysterious deaths of another four men in Bilbao.

The horror revelations yesterday were sparked by a complaint in December from a man who claims he narrowly escaped an encounter with the killer.

He said the man tried to strangle him and later found his abandoned rucksack, which contained the party drug liquid ecstasy and personal documents after fleeing following a struggle.

Basque newspaper El Correo said all the deaths were attributed to natural causes during initial post-mortems.

But detectives now believe the men had been murdered after discovering money had been taken from their bank accounts and at least one had traces of liquid ecstasy in his body.

The theory investigators are now probing is that the suspected serial killer drugged his victims using the likes of liquid ecstasy, also known as GHB, and accessed their bank accounts after arranging to meet up on dates at their homes using Grindr.

The sick crimes echoes those of Indonesian student Reynard Sinaga, 39, who was jailed for life in Manchester in January 2020 for raping 136 young men between 2015 and 2017.

The sex predator, described as the most prolific rapist in British legal history, used liquid ecstasy to knock out his victims before attacking them.

Serial killer Stephen Port, responsible for the deaths of four men in London, also used GHB to murder victims he met on Grindr.

Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth, and Jack Taylor, who were all in their early 20s, were killed by overdoses of GHB administered by Port between June 2014 and September 2015.

He dumped their bodies near his flat in Barking, east London.

There has not yet been any official comment from Spanish police, who are said to be waiting the results of lab tests on tissue samples taken from at least four men identified as the most likely victims.

Bilbao’s mayor Juan Mari Aburto has admitted an investigation is ongoing but pleaded for calm.

El Correo has identified the suspect as a man aged between 20 and 30 with one local report saying he could be a Colombian called Carlos although he is believed to used a synonym online.

Detectives in the Basque Country are reportedly working in close co-operation with central police forces to see if they are investigating similar crimes elsewhere in Spain.
