The Yellowstone’s fearless head ranch hand Rip Wheeler (played by Cole Hauser) will be on a quest for vengeance following the shooting of his boss John Dutton (Kevin Costner) in the latest season of the popular Paramount Western. However, Hauser’s co-stars admitted the ranch’s long list of enemies aren’t the only ones looking over both shoulders when Rip’s around.

Jimmy Hurdstram star Jefferson White has recalled some of his co-star’s intimidating behaviour behind the scenes of the hit series Yellowstone.

White’s character is known as the naive newcomer to Dutton Ranch, and has been butting heads with John Dutton’s right-hand man since the first season.

Although Rip’s underling clearly respects his tough-as-nails boss, the ranch manager doesn’t shy away from verbally and physically demeaning Jimmy to kick him into gear.

During a chat with fellow bunkhouse boys Denim Richards and Ian Bohen, Jefferson White revealed Hauser often retains his character’s more boisterous habits when the cameras aren’t rolling.

He told his co-stars: “One time we’re in between scenes, like they’re setting up lights.

“Cole goes, ‘Hey Jeff, come here, get here.’ I go over there and he grabs me by the back of the neck and he pulls me in.

“I’m like, ‘oh f**k, what is it, what did I do? Is he… what’s gonna happen?’”

In the series, a talking to from Rip Wheeler usually means you’re a split second away from a trip to the hospital.

Thankfully, Cole Hauser was only joking around with his Yellowstone cohort and Jefferson White hadn’t invoked the wrath of Rip this time.

He went on: “He goes, ‘did you see where they got the coffee? Where’s the coffee at?’”

Clearly, the Yellowstone star doesn’t like to break character too much even when he’s simply after a beverage to perk him up between takes.

Jefferson White’s fellow bunkhouse crew also weighed in on Hauser’s dedicated performance as Rip.

Denim Richards, the bunkhouse’s Colby, added: “He gets so immersed.

“You listen, you tend to listen. When he gives you advice you tend to be very present in the advice that is given.”

According to Richards, Hauser undergoes a complete transformation back to his regular self once shooting for each season is complete.

Once he’s out of character, the actor is a huge sports fan and a joy to hang out with.

Ian Bohen also chimed in to suggest the brief moment of happiness Rip shares with his fiancee Beth (Kelly Reilly) is how Cole Hauser is the majority of the time.

“You can see what’s underneath,” he explained. “Just smiling, easy breezy.

“He’s like a teddy bear, which people don’t get to see ‘cause in a heartbeat, you think he’s gonna kill you.”

If the cast’s praise of Cole Hauser’s performance is anything to go by, Rip Wheeler could be about to take an even darker turn in the next season following the devastating attacks on his employers.

Yellowstone season 4 premieres on Sunday, November 7 on Paramount.
