Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? winner swamped with DMs asking for money

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire winner Donald Fear has been bombarded with messages from ‘old friends’ who are trying to get handouts from him.

The Shropshire teacher became the first person in 14 years to take home the £1million prize last month, in an effort that caused Jeremy Clarkson to call him ‘one of the best contestants ever’.

But it seems that money comes with a cost (no pun intended), and he’s now asked former acquaintances to stop trying to get their hands on his cash.

According to The Sun, he wrote on Facebook: ‘Found a really weird begging letter (20,000 euros) from France in my pigeon-hole this morning (in addition to the 20 or 30 I’ve received via DMs on here). There are downsides to this win!’

‘Now I’ve discovered that there is a ‘spam’ folder in Messenger,’ he later added.

‘It contains 132 messages, including ones from old friends I’d lost touch with years ago.

‘We’re talking primary school in Prestwich, first year at university, etc, as well as offers to go on BBC Breakfast, Sky News breakfast programme, Radio 5 Live as well as dozens of dodgy messages.’

Well… unfortunately for the chancers who couldn’t resist trying their luck, Donald has already decided on how he’s going to spend his money.

After quitting his job at the end of term, Donald revealed shortly after his win that he plans on heading to the Outer Hebrides in a caravan.

‘The first priority will be to make sure I have a comfortable retirement,’ he also told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning.

‘After that, I might waste quite a lot of money on CDs, but even I’d struggle to spend £1million on CDs!’

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is available now on catch-up.
