WandaVision Easter Eggs: Is HYDRA holding Wanda captive?

WandaVision: Elizabeth Olsen stars in Disney+ series trailer

The first two episodes of WandaVision are now available to stream on Disney+ as fans get their first glimpse at the Marvel series. The show sees Wanda Maximoff (played by Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) re-imagined in a series of sitcom scenarios. However, some may already be convinced Easter Eggs have confirmed what is really going on.

Is HYDRA holding Wanda captive?

WandaVision so far has seen Wanda and Vision in two sitcom stories in the 1950s and the 1960s.

Each episode has seen the pair as a suburban couple attempting to hide their supernatural powers, often to hilarious effect.

However, there have also been several clues more is going on than meets the eye in the new Marvel series.

So far, both characters have experienced moments of confusion and anachronistic things happening, leading them to question what is happening.

In episode one, this manifested when Wanda and Vision could not remember how they first met, as well as their neighbour’s disconcerting laugh as her husband was choking.

Then in episode two, more alarm bells were ringing as a helicopter in technicolour appeared in Wanda’s back garden and a radio later blasted “Who’s doing this to you, Wanda?.”

This is not to even mention the strange beekeeper who appeared at the end of episode two.

These clues have already got fans desperate to work out what is happening and why the characters are stuck in this bizarre situation.

One of the major theories emerging is how Wanda may be being held captive by someone, especially because of the radio message asking her who is responsible.

Therefore, it seems like an evil being or corporation may be placing her in these dream-like scenarios, which may manifest as sitcoms.

The culprit could be hiding in plain sight in the new Disney+ series in the form of a bizarre commercial break.

In episode two, the show features an advert for a wristwatch in the middle of the sitcom.

Eagle-eyed viewers will have noticed the word HYDRA is embedded inside of the watch face.

As well as this, the watch is called a Strücker, which will be a name familiar to Marvel fans.

Baron Strücker was a member of HYDRA who appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

He was responsible for conducting experiments on Wanda and her brother Pietro (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), which caused them to gain their powers.

There may also be another reference to the organisation as the beekeeper could have also been a reference to their worship of the Hive.

Fans of Marvel will know HYDRA is an evil group intent on world domination who have also caused plenty of problems for the Avengers in the past.

This could all be hinting they are back once again and have not finished with Wanda yet.

As the series continues on, fans will just have to keep their eyes peeled for any more references to come.

WandaVision airs on Disney+ on Fridays.
