University Challenge viewers seriously distracted by team's outfits – but they have the last laugh

UNIVERSITY Challenge viewers have been left seriously distracted by a team's outfits – but they had the last laugh.

Monday's episode of the BBC Two show saw Emmanuel from Cambridge take on St Catharine's, also from Cambridge.

The team from Emmanuel introduced themselves first, with each contestant wearing casual clothes.

Host Jeremy Paxman then introduced St Catherine's, saying: "Their opponents, St Catharine's College, Cambridge who had a close match with the University of Oxford in their first-round fixture.

"Winning by only a 10 point margin of 130 points to 120.

"A margin which would have been even greater if they'd been a little more familiar with Juliette Binoche."

However, when the camera moved over to St Catharine's for their introductions, viewers immediately noticed that the team were all wearing matching uniforms.

It consisted of a burgundy jumper with their university's name and logo on one side.

One viewer immediately tweeted: "#UniversityChallenge Catz wearing matching jumpers? What is this witchcraft? I love it."

Another added: "Matching sweatshirts is a bit school uniform."

A third wrote: "St Catharine's look like they are wearing my old school uniform."

Others joked they looked like they were from Harry Potter, with one viewer writing: "100 points to Griffindor."

Another added: "So love it when a team appears in their Hogwart's robes."

However, St Catherines went on to score a respectable 120 and only missed out on beating Emmanuel by five points.

University Challenge airs Mondays on BBC Two and is available on BBC iPlayer.
