AceShowbiz –Meghan McCain has something to say about Vogue and its editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. In the Wednesday, June 30 episode of “The View“, the co-host accused Anna and the magazine of being racist and probematic while discussing First Lady Jill Biden‘s August 2021 cover for the magazine.
In the episode, Meghan claimed that she’s been done with the fashion magazine since a 2008 cover featuring NBA player LeBron James and model Gisele Bundchen. She dubbed the cover “very racist” as it made the athlete “look like an ape holding a woman.”
“Anna Wintour has a long history of not putting models on her covers, of not putting people of color, of having a very problematic image for women to look to. I think Anna Wintour and ‘Vogue’ are one of the reasons why we have a lot of toxicity in the fashion industry, so I’ve been done with ‘Vogue’ for a very, very long time,” she explained.
She went on to say, “And I would actually like some of the ‘accountability culture’ or ‘consequence culture,’ as Sunny [Hostin] calls it, to actually, finally filter to ‘Vogue’ magazine and Anna Wintour. And you don’t have to believe me, you can just watch ‘The Devil Wears Prada‘.” She also said that she hoped Vogue “starts to reconcile their deep, intense, racist legacy.”
Later, Meghan talked about the lack of Melania Trump in the magazine. Implying that the magazine often snubbed conservative first ladies, Meghan shared, “I was not a fan, obviously, of the Trump family and I was not a fan of Melania Trump’s. But no one can negate the fact that she was a fashionable first lady.” She continued, “So if your magazine is just about fashion, you should have put her on the cover.”
Of Jill’s cover, meanwhile, Meghan said she didn’t really like how she was dressed for the cover though she admitted that the First Lady is “beautiful and lovely and doing a great job.” Meghan opined that Jill might look better if she’s “fashioned up” and wearing an “elegant gown.”
