Stranger Things: Jim Hopper returns in season four promo

Stranger Things season four is eagerly awaited by fans of the hit sci-fi series. The show is on its way back to Netflix but there has been relatively little information revealed so far. Ahead of its return, has rounded up all you need to know about the sci-fi hit, as well as the fate of the beloved Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour).

When will Stranger Things season 4 be released?

Stranger Things season four has officially been renewed but Netflix has not yet revealed a release date for the hugely popular show.

The exact date it could be out is also difficult to predict based on previous release dates for the show.

The first series was released on July 2016 with the second coming out just over a year later on October 2017 but viewers had to wait a little longer for the third series, which was finally released on July 4, 2019.

However, it looks like filming started in 2019 on the fourth run, according to Production Weekly and TV Line.

Although, this was then shut down in March following the outbreak of coronavirus COVID-19.

Filming restarted once again but the stars have confirmed the pace is moving slower than usual due to filming restrictions.

Who will star in Stranger Things season 4?

Many of the major stars of Stranger Things are expected to return in season four.

This includes Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington and Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers.

Other actors expected to return include Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Byers, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield and Brett Gelman as Murray Bauman

The biggest question over the returning cast is whether David Harbour could be coming back as Jim Hopper.

The character was seemingly killed in third season finale, but it has now been confirmed he is alive.

This will be exciting news for fans who will be able to see the star back in action.

Netflix has also confirmed some new faces will be joining the cast for season four as well.

This includes Eduardo Franco as Argyle and Jamie Campbell Bower as Peter Ballard.

Other new stars include Joseph Quinn, Mason Due, Robert Englund and Tom Wlaschiha.

Stranger Things: Netflix reveal show to return for fourth season

Is there a trailer for Stranger Things season 4?

Netflix has released a short teaser announcing the series renewal across their social media pages, which you can see at the top of this page.

The short 45-second clip shows the Stranger Things logo in the Upside Down along with the tagline “We’re not in Hawkins anymore.”

Not much is given away, other than a ticking clocktower that fans have been speculating may be reminiscent of Big Ben.

Given that the last season saw Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown) and the Byers family move away from Hawkins, it seems highly possible that trouble could have followed them on their journey.

Along with this, Netflix has now given Stranger Things fans a Valentine’s Day gift of sorts with teaser footage confirming a huge plot point.

Netflix has confirmed Hopper’s fate after intense speculation with a short video, which makes for a chilling first look.

What will happen in Stranger Things season 4?

Aside from the hint that the latest season will be expanding outside of Hawkins, Indiana, there have been a few more clues about its potential direction.

This was teased by a mid-credits scene at the end of the third season that opened on a Russian laboratory in Kamchatka.

In the short scene, it was revealed that the Russians had a Demogorgan in their possession, as well as an American prisoner.

This scene caused major speculation about who this could be after Jim Hopper’s devastating death in the season three finale.

Now, Netflix has confirmed Hopper is the prisoner afterall in a tense teaser.

This showed the beloved character in Russia – and this is bound to be what a lot of season four focuses on.

As well as this, there have been some hints in the teaser trailer which featured a number of Easter Eggs.

This includes the tease of Hopper’s cabin in the Upside Down, as well as a clocktower hinting about when the series could be returning.

Stranger Things seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix.
