Riverdale’s upcoming fifth season could kill its main character, Archie Andrews, its showrunner has teased.
Played by Kiwi actor KJ Apa, Archie has been at the centre of the hyperbolic teen-drama since its debut in 2017, but its fifth outing could be its last.
Yes that’s right, he’s survived hooded serial killers, a fight with a bear and the epic highs and lows of high school football, but Archie Andrews could finally meet his maker in…war?
Posting to Twitter, Riverdale’s showrunner and master of the absurd plot twist Roberto Aguirre Sacasa posted images of the third and fourth episodes of the fifth season, and something immediately caught fans’ attention.
Namely, that the fourth episode is named Purgatory, and the animated front cover of the script sees what looks to be the figures of Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) standing over a gravestone, as Archie, decked out in the garb of a solider, looks ahead in the sky.
Now, if that’s not an ominous sign, we don’t know what is.
