Matt, 43, was a host on The One Show alongside Alex Jones, 43, for almost a decade but last year, he made the decision to leave the programme. Due to coronavirus restrictions and the fact he was self-isolating at the time, the former Blue Peter star was unable to be in the studio when he bid farewell to viewers on March 31, 2020. However, when he made his grand comeback to promote his new show Matt Baker: Our Farm in the Dales, the BBC presenter said he was quite “emotional”.

Alex teased his return by telling viewers: “Now then. It’s a year to the day since he left The One Show.

“Let’s welcome back Matt Baker,” she continued as the father-of-two was seen feeding sheep on his family’s farm.

His former co-star asked: “Matthew, can you believe it’s been a year and you’re back on the show?

“How are you feeling?” she continued with Matt seemingly surprised by just how much the occasion meant to him.

“Do you know what?” Matt replied. “I feel quite emotional, to be honest with you.”

“To hear your voice over talkback, hearing the music at the start and just that vibe,” he added as he struggled to look at the camera.

“It’s incredible I did say goodbye on a laptop propped up against an ironing board a year ago today and now I get to welcome you all to the Durham Dales,” Matt said as he regained his composure.
