Strictly Come Dancing Week seven saw the remaining contestants take to the dance floor once again to impress the judges and continue their journey in the BBC competition. Former Bake Off star John Whaite and partner Johannes Radebe left Shirley Ballas emotional with their Rumba however when John commented he wanted to hug her for her kind words, Claudia Winkleman snapped back and told him he wasn’t allowed.

After performing their Rumba to Shape Of My Heart by Sting, the dancing duo headed over to the judges to receive their thoughts on the performance.

Craig Revel Horwood praised the routine but noted: “You could have a straighter leg for the hip action.”

Head judge and ‘Rumba Queen’ Shirley Ballas disagreed: “Actually I’m quite moved, I really feel quite emotional after watching that.

“I actually can’t agree with you Craig, I’m standing right here the bending and straightening of your leg, the precision of your feet.”

“The fact you stripped down the whole Rumba and made it more pure and kept it so simple was so fitting,” she continued.

“I’m getting all emotional, was so fitting for both of you, it was atmospheric, it had lovely quality it had changes of timing.

“It stuck to about the goldish level which I think is stunning because you can win a championship on simple basics, all in all, it was class personified for me.”

They then joined Claudia Winkleman to discuss the judges’ comments, to which John said: “I’m feeling a bit emotional now.

“To be able to do this with Johannes, it’s a dance based on respect and mutuality and movement of it all I didn’t think I’d get the opportunity to do this.”

Claudia went on to say: “And you really wanted to channel your inner Shirley Ballas, I believe you were watching videos going ‘What would Shirley do?’ It made her emotional too, even she was blown away by it.”

After receiving a score of 35 out of a possible 40, and being awarded a 10 from Shirley, John and Johannes were beaming with joy.

Not being able to contain his excitement, John screamed and said: “Oh, I’d give her a cuddle if I was allowed.”

To which Claudia snapped back and said: “Yes, you’re absolutely not allowed.”

John and Johannes ended up being third on the leaderboard just under AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington who scored 39 and Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden who scored 38.

Meanwhile, Craig cheekily warned John and Johannes he wanted to “steal” their routine.

“I was just thinking through that dance I might teach Jonathan my fiancé and steal it as my wedding dance,” he said.

“I don’t know whether he’d be up for it but, I thought it was absolutely gorgeous, I really did!.

“You could have a straighter leg for the hip action, but the hip action was actually there, you could have held with more drama and resistance.”

“But I totally loved it, it was brilliant well done,” he praised.

Motsi Mabuse commented: “I felt like there was just the two of you and me in this hall, you kind of took away everything and your movement spoke.

“They said less speaks more and that’s what I felt, and the very sensitive feeling in the arms all great, really great to watch.”

Anton also praised them: “I thought it was a beautifully mature performance, I enjoyed it like, well I can’t even begin to tell you.
