ITV star turns down Strictly Come Dancing as their beauty could cause problems

GMB’s Susanna Reid calls Strictly ‘snobby’

In a recent interview, Celebrity Juice star Leigh Francis shared the reason he has never wanted to take part in Strictly Come Dancing which returns to BBC One this autumn.

Speaking to The Sun’s TV Mag, he claimed producers have asked him to sign up for the dancing show on several occasions.

Leigh, who is best known for being ITV presenter Keith Lemon, said: “Every time I go to support a friend that’s doing it there will be a producer that creeps up at the side of me and says: ‘Do you fancy having a go?’

“I have been asked for this series, but obviously, I said no.”

Stating the reason for turning the show down, he added: “It’s too hard and I’m too old to do hard things, I just want to do easy things.

“I want to enjoy myself and have a lovely time, I know that’s having my cake and eating it but I’m old enough to have my cake and eat.”

He quipped: “Strictly looks too hard and I wouldn’t want anyone to be affected by my beauty and fall victim to the curse and throwing themselves at me.”

While the line-up is yet to be officially announced, a number of names have been thrown into the mix.

Former EastEnders star Nigel Harman is reportedly in the line-up for this year’s series.

He’s best known for playing Sharon Watts’ (played by Letitia Dean) partner Dennis Rickman on the BBC soap in the early 2000s.

Ex-Love Island star Zara McDermott could also be taking part and she would make history as the first islander to be on Strictly.

Lioness Jill Scott is also rumoured to be taking part, which comes less than a year after being crowned Queen of the Jungle on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Rylan Clark, 34, who is a huge fan of the show, has also been named to be dancing his way to the Glitterball Trophy.

He had been hosting It Takes Two in recent years alongside former Strictly star Janette Manrara, but he’s being replaced by Fleur East this year.

Strictly Come Dancing will airs on BBC One later this year.
