The times, they are a changin’ for Queen Elizabeth. Or at least, they were in the 1960s and 1970s.
Netflix Monday released the first full-length trailer for Season 3 of British monarchy drama “The Crown” (streaming Nov. 17), which features a new cast taking on the roles as the series goes deeper into the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. And based on the stirring trailer, it looks like Olivia Colman (Elizabeth), Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret) and Tobias Menzies (Prince Philip) are more than up to the task.
The trailer shows Elizabeth 25 years into her reign, in an embattled and changing United Kingdom (as the cover of Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are a Changin'” that plays over the trailer hammers home). Elizabeth feels like a failure for accomplishing so little, and is threatened by rising politician Harold Wilson (Jason Watkins). Margaret is there to buoy her sister, but the trailer also sets up a conflict between the pair, as Margaret’s charm and popularity clearly outmatch Elizabeth’s.
Also featured is an adult Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor), already at conflict with his royal parents, and the trailer gives a hint of his infamous romantic drama to come.
