I’M A Celeb stars were due to do their “twos” in the snake-infested bush under original plans.
Desperate contestants are known to hate cleaning out the show’s “dreaded dunny”.
But it could have been far worse for contestants such as this year’s castle crew, set to include EastEnders’ Ian Beale actor Adam Woodyatt.
Ian Hamilton, the show’s first producer, told a podcast: “The original plan called for no lav. The idea was that they’d go off into the bush, a hundred yards away and do their thing.
“It would have been quite edgy.
But the Australians said: ‘No you can’t do that because whatever they do in the bush might get into the water supply.’
“So the only reason to this day that there is a lavatory is because we weren’t allowed to do that back in 2002.”
Celebrities have cursed the dunny because they have to take turns to empty it once full — a gruesome, stinking task in the steaming jungle heat.
This year’s show again takes place at Gwrych Castle, North Wales, due to Covid.
And loo trips will still be grim for the celebrities — who will also include Arlene Phillips, Richard Madeley and Frankie Bridge.
