GMB’s Ben Shephard left filling in bald spot with makeup after home haircut fail

Good Morning Britain host Ben Shephard left his co-host, Ranvir Singh, cringing after opening up about an epic haircut fail on the show.

Chatting about The Duchess of Cambridge, who revealed she's had to learn to become a hairdresser during lockdown to cut her children's hair, Ben, 46, admitted his mum also used to get out the scissors.

However, despite her best intentions, the star insisted she wasn't as good as she thought.

Turning to Ranvir, Ben said: "My mum used to cut my hair, she gave me no choice.

"She did it until I was around 12, 13 and I wanted to go to the barbers.

"My friends were all getting their hair shaved short and she said she could do it better.

"But she kept getting shorter and shorter on each side and then she goes, 'Oh I may have gone a little short'.

"There was a large chunk out of my head."

Looking shocked, Ranvir, 44, gasped open-mouthed: "It was down to the scalp."

Explaining the novel way his mum came up with to fix the problem, Ben continued: "She got out some brown mascara and she covered it in.

"I got to school and I thought I had got away with it but then we had football and then I had mascara running down my face."

Laughing, the star added: "Scarred for life."

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "My wife’s first lockdown hair cut attempt … #GMB," alongside a questionable hair cut snap.

A second joked: "Hi @benshephard my mum used to also cut our hair.

"But cleverly she used to cut half of my dad’s hair. Stop and get him to do a job eg paint the fence before she would carry on. Dad would be painting the fence, in the drive, with half of a haircut #GMB."

Kicking off the show on Friday, Ranvir explained how it was nice to be back in the ITV studio after a short break from the early mornings.

Turning to her co-host, the Strictly Come Dancing 2020 star said: "It's nice to be back.

"I've not seen you [Ben] in the flesh for ages."
