Emmerdale star Samantha Giles has decided to wear wig when she returns to play Bernice Blackstock in upcoming scenes of the ITV soap
The hairdresser was last seen on our screens in November 2019 after she left for Australia with Dee Dee in order to help care for her ex-husband Charlie, who had been involved in a serious car accident.
Plenty has changed since Bernice fled in the village 18 months ago. Her teenage daughter Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) waged a hate campaign against her ex Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) and is now pregnant with Jamie Tate's (Alex Lincoln) child.
Filming is also completely different for actress Samantha, 49, from social distancing rules on set to doing her own hair and makeup.
Speaking to Daily Star and other press, the soap icon explained that she has decided to wear a wig to play Bernice.
She said: "I’ve got very very thick, wiry, frizzy hair! I can’t do it myself. I just can’t do it!
"Obviously Bernice is a hairdresser so she is not going to be seen looking anything less than having her coiffed look, if you like.
"So, that has all been really hard!"
Teasing Bernice's first scenes back in the village, Samantha said: "It's a sort of an unexpected entrance shall we say.
"There's a lot going on isn't there? We've got Gabby pregnant and Liam about to get married to Leyla so there's quite a lot of stuff to come back for.
"It's lovely that the character was loved enough to want me to come back, that is a massive compliment."
Bernice's daughter Gabby, 19, got pregnant after a one-night stand with Jamie and his cunning mum Kim Tate (Claire King) has since taken the expecting mother under her wing.
Samantha said: "Bernice knows about Gabby's pregnancy because Nicola told her on the phone but it's obviously a shock for her seeing her daughter.
"I think Bernice is absolutely not going to let Gabby remain in the clutches of the Tates and Home Farm. She wants to make a stand for her daughter.

"I'm sure the Kim and Bernice stuff will come in the future and over the next few months when the baby is born.
"At the moment there is nothing as of yet other than a brief meeting with Kim Tate at the beginning when she comes back but I'm sure there will be some sort of fight."
