Recently in Coronation Street, Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) ended up in hospital after falling into a river.

This happened when she was out with Brian (Peter Gunn) and Asha (Tanisha Gorey) searching for Roy (David Neilson), who was unable to be contacted about a cancelled bat meeting due to the fact he didn’t have a phone.

When Nina spotted Roy’s flask in the river, she panicked and assumed he had fallen in. She slowly made her way down the bank but slipped, leaving Brian to rescue her.

As Nina recovered in hospital her girlfriend, Asha, explained that after her lack of life-saving skills were highlighted, she now wants to go to university and become a paramedic, something Tanisha Gorey is looking forward to getting her teeth into:

‘Asha starts university in September. She wants to a paramedic, and that leads us down a not-too-perfect road, shall we say!’, she told us at this year’s British Soap Awards, teasing what’s ahead for her character.

‘I’m worried about all the big words, but we need to be educated and we need to know these things, so I am really excited to be taking on that.’

Away from her character’s career path, Tanisha also acknowledged how vital it is to see Asha and Nina’s relationship continue to develop on the show.

Right now, there’s no sign their relationship could come to an end anytime soon, which leaves Tanisha feeling hopeful about Nina and Asha tying the knot in the future.

‘Asha has only just turned 18, I think people forget how young she is. Maybe in the future, I would like to hope so!’, she said.

‘I absolutely love Mollie [Gallagher, who plays Nina]. I love Asha and Nina together, they’re great role models for the younger generation.

‘Me and Mollie both get so many messages regarding their sexuality and how the storyline has helped them, so I would love to see them stick together and show the world what they’re made of!’
