POOR Mary Taylor was left confused and devastated in Coronation Street on Wednesday night when she discovered a shocking secret about Norris Cole.
As Norris revealed he wanted to divorce Mary – who he married so they could win a Mr & Mrs radio competition – so he could marry Emily Bishop’s niece, Freda.
Who is Brendan in Coronation Street?
While Norris and Mary bickered, Freda made a shocking discovery – a pile of letters that Norris had hidden at No.3.
Freda showed the letters to Rita and they turned out to be from an old flame of Mary’s called Brendan, telling Mary he loved her and wanted to be with her.
One of the envelopes even contained and engagement ring.
For those viewers who might not remember Brendan and his history with Mary, here’s a quick recap.
Brendan Finch was the editor of a magazine Norris stocked in the Kabin. He visited the shop back in 2015 when he confronted Norris over his poor attitude on the phone.
During his visit he met Mary Taylor who was working there at the time and the pair hit it off.
They really bonded and sparks began to fly until Brendan revealed he was married, news that left Mary stunned as she had no idea.
While Mary told him that she didn’t want to be his bit on the side, Brendan assured her he was planning on leaving his wife. But he never did.
In fact Brendan’s wife, Bridget, tracked Mary down and confronted her in the Rovers, slapping her in the face for trying to poach her husband. Brendan arrived and tried to talk his way out of the situation by telling Bridget that Mary was a deranged fan.
What did his letters say?
The letters Brandon sent to Mary declared his love for her and even confirmed that he’d left Bridget.
He proposed marriage in one, but the letters never reached Mary as they were intercepted by Norris.
Norris will declare he did it to stop Mary getting hurt by Brendan again, but is he being completely honest.
Mary has now contacted Brendan and is set to meet with him after leaving him a message saying she never received his mail. So will they pick up where they left off?
If only Brendan had used WhatsApp instead. Those infamous blue ticks could’ve saved a lot of heartache.
