Caroline Quentin and Johannes Radebe brought something brand new to week one of Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night when they performed an American Smooth. It Takes Two presenter Zoe Ball revealed it was the first time the dance debuted at the beginning of a series. During their time on the sister show, the actress also revealed what she was like to teach and how she relishes off praise.
“You must’ve been so proud of Caroline,” Zoe said to Johannes.
He replied: “I really was. I was so blown away and I said to her ’that’s the best we’ve ever danced it’, so when it turned out like that, I was like ‘Caroline, I love you.’”
“Just that simple ‘Love you,’ and you felt that?” Zoe asked the celebrity.
“I did, honestly I’m very needy with the praise,” Caroline admitted. “I really am.
“After a long hard day, if he doesn’t go ‘yes’, if he goes ‘no’ I really don’t like it. I go home and I get quite depressed, and because I’m living on my own, I just sit there.”
“It’s like a little bone isn’t it,” Zoe remarked. “You work so hard, get thrown a little bone and you’re happy again!
“Judges comments, let’s remind ourselves, words like ‘exquisite timing…graceful, charming, elegant’, they’re talking about you, Caroline!”
“I know, I was thrilled,” she commented.
And what was really interesting, they started with ‘you’re not a dancer’ – it was the first thing I heard, and I think I burst into tears straight away instead of waiting for the second part of the sentence which as ‘you’re a dancing queen!’
“I didn’t handle it brilliantly – I don’t know if anyone noticed,” Caroline joked.
“No one noticed at all Caroline!” Zoe added laughing.
“But I think I got away with it! I might have had a tiny catch in my throat, but once we got through that bit, it hit us, we had a good dance!”

This weekend, Caroline and Johannes are dancing the Paso Doble to El Gato Montes by Ramon Cortez.
“Johannes, you’re feeling it already!” The presenter remarked. “The passion that is coming into your body when you hear this music!”
“Darling, it’s a traditional Paso [Doble],” he replied. “it’s going to be fire and she is going to be bringing it.”
“How’s training going?” Zoe enquired.
“We’ve worked today, quite hard,” Caroline revealed. “I can barely move!
“Actually, this was one of the dances I was quite excited about doing, and I’m really going to enjoy it.
“It’s proper hot, really sexy, very fierce.”
It Takes Two airs weekday evenings at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
